How to install the /tpa and /home commands on a modded Minecraft server

Installation Guide: /tpa and /home Commands On a Modded Minecraft Server

On a Vanilla Minecraft server (non-modded), the commands /tpa and /home do not exist by default. On a modded server, it's generally best to avoid using plugins (like EssentialsX) as they often conflict with mods. The ideal solution is to install a dedicated mod for utility functions.

1. Choosing the Solution: FTB Essentials

For a modpack like Cobblemon, the most stable and complete mod is FTB Essentials. It works directly with Forge or Fabric and requires no complex configuration to get started.

Prerequisites

Before installation, make sure you have these two files (available on CurseForge or Modrinth):

  1. FTB Essentials: The main mod.
  2. FTB Library: The essential library for the mod to function.

⚠️ IMPORTANT
Make sure to download the version that exactly matches your server's version (e.g. 1.20.1 Forge).

2. Installation Procedure

Follow these steps for a clean installation on your server:

  1. Stop your server — Never add mods while the server is online.

  2. Access the files — Use your FTP access (FileZilla) or your hosting provider's file manager.

  3. Mods Folder — Open the folder named mods.

  4. Transfer — Drag the .jar files of FTB Essentials and FTB Library inside.

  5. Restart — Restart your server. Configuration files will be generated automatically on startup.

3. Using Commands In-Game

Once the server is restarted, players will have access to a variety of essential commands.

Teleportation Between Players

CommandAction
/tpa <username>Sends a teleport request to a player.
/tpahere <username>Requests a player to come to your position.
/tpacceptAccepts the last teleport request.
/tpdenyDeclines a teleport request.

Managing Home Points

CommandAction
/sethome <name>Saves your current position (e.g. your base).
/home <name>Instantly teleports you to your base.
/spawnReturns to the world's spawn point.
/backReturns you to the location of your last death.

4. Why It's Essential for Cobblemon?

The modpack Cobblemon requires a lot of exploration to find rare Pokémon or specific biomes.

🎮 Sharing Discoveries
If a friend finds a Shiny Pokémon or a legendary, /tpa allows you to join them instantly.

🏠 Optimized Survival
Combat and exploration can take you far. /home saves you from long tedious journeys to empty your inventory of Pokéballs and resources.

5. Going Further: Managing Permissions

If you want to restrict the use of /tpa to certain players or create ranks (VIP, Admin, Player), I recommend adding the FTB Ranks mod.

It allows you, for example, to:

  • Limit the number of homes per player (e.g. 2 for players, 5 for VIPs).
  • Add a cooldown period between two teleports to prevent abuse.
