What Sets Cobblemon Academy 2.0 Apart from the Standard Cobblemon Mod
If you are already familiar with the Cobblemon mod (the open-source alternative to Pixelmon), you may be wondering what the Academy 2.0 modpack brings. The difference is massive: the standard Cobblemon is a standalone mod that adds catchable creatures in a classic Minecraft world. Cobblemon Academy 2.0 is a complete modpack of over 100 mods that transforms the entire experience.
Specifically, Academy 2.0 adds compared to the base mod:
- A RPG progression system with arenas, badges, and scripted quests
- Completely remodeled biomes thanks to three combined worldgen mods
- An integrated economic system with merchant NPCs
- The Safari World, an exclusive daily challenge for the modpack
- Collectible cards that add an extra layer of gameplay
- More than 1000 Cobblemon (compared to ~300 in the base mod) thanks to integrated addons
In summary: the standard Cobblemon is a mod, Academy 2.0 is a complete gaming experience built around this mod.

🌐 PART 2: Server Deployment (OuiHeberg)
This section explains how to deploy Cobblemon Academy 2.0 on a server for multiplayer play.
Step 1: Order Hosting for Cobblemon Academy
If you do not have a server yet:
- Go to the OuiHeberg Minecraft hosting page
- Choose a plan that suits your needs
💡 Recommendation: For Cobblemon Academy 2.0, plan for at least 6-8 GB of RAM for a smooth experience with multiple players. For 10+ players, upgrade to 10-12 GB.
- Complete your order and wait for delivery (usually instant)
Step 2: Access OuiPanel
- Log in to your OuiHeberg client area
- Access your OuiPanel (server management panel)
- Select your Minecraft server
Step 3: Stop the Server
Before installing the modpack, you must first stop your server:
- In the control panel, click the Stop button

- Browse the list or use the search to find Cobblemon Academy 2.0

To learn more about installing modpacks in general, check out our guide on installing a modpack on OuiPanel.
Step 5: Start the Server
- Return to the main page of your server
- Click on Start
- Monitor the console to see the progress
⏱️ The first start may take 5 to 10 minutes. The server needs to generate the world, initialize all Cobblemon mods, and load the biome configurations. This is normal. The server is ready when you see
Done!in the console.
Step 6: Retrieve the Server IP Address
- In OuiPanel, locate your server's IP address
- It can be found on the homepage of the panel or in the server information
- The address looks like:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:25565(IP + port) - Copy this address to share with your players
🔗 PART 3: Joining the Server
How to Connect
- Launch Minecraft via CurseForge with the Cobblemon Academy 2.0 modpack
- On the title screen, click on Multiplayer
- Click on Add Server
- Fill in the information:
- Server Name: whatever you want (e.g., "My Cobblemon Server")
- Server Address: paste the IP address retrieved in the previous step
- Click on Done
- Select your server from the list and click on Join Server
⚠️ Important: All players must have exactly the same version of the modpack installed via CurseForge. A version difference (even minor) will prevent connection.
⚙️ Optimal Server Configuration for Cobblemon Academy 2.0
Cobblemon Academy 2.0 is a relatively resource-intensive Fabric modpack, particularly due to the three combined biome generation mods (William Wythers, Oh The Biomes We've Gone, Regions Unexplored). Here are our recommendations based on feedback from our OuiHeberg clients:
Recommended Resources:
- 1-5 players → 6-8 GB of server RAM
- 5-10 players → 8-10 GB of server RAM
- 10-20 players → 12 GB of server RAM
- 20+ players → 16 GB+ of server RAM
- Java Version → Java 21 (automatically configured at OuiHeberg)
- Storage → ~4 GB minimum (modpack + generated world)
Recommended server.properties Settings:
- view-distance=8 — Optimal compromise between rendering Cobblemon biomes and performance. Custom biomes are heavier than Vanilla biomes; reducing below 6 degrades the visual experience.
- simulation-distance=6 — Reduces the load related to entities (including Cobblemon) without affecting gameplay.
- max-players — Adjust according to your RAM. Count about 500-800 MB of RAM per connected player with this modpack.
Performance Tip: Custom biomes generate chunks significantly heavier than Vanilla. Pre-generate your world with the Chunky mod to avoid lag spikes when your players explore new areas:
/chunky radius 3000
/chunky start
Let the pre-generation run when the server is empty. Depending on your server, expect 30 to 60 minutes for a radius of 3000 blocks.
🧩 Recommended Complementary Mods (Client-Side Only)
Cobblemon Academy 2.0 is a complete modpack, but you can add a few client-side only mods to enhance your gaming comfort:
- Xaero's Minimap — A discreet minimap to help you navigate the custom biomes. Particularly useful given the size and variety of the biomes in Academy 2.0.
- Roughly Enough Items (REI) — To check crafting recipes without leaving the game. Handy with the modpack's economic system.
- Mod Menu — To easily configure your Fabric mods from an integrated menu.
- Iris Shaders — If your PC supports it, shaders make the Cobblemon Academy biomes absolutely stunning. Natively compatible with Fabric.
⚠️ Only add additional mods on the client side. On the server side, the modpack is preconfigured by OuiHeberg, and adding untested mods can create incompatibilities or crashes. If you want to add a server mod, test it first on a solo world.

❓ FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
The game crashes on startup, what should I do?
Three things to check first:
- Insufficient RAM — Make sure you have allocated at least 8 GB in the CurseForge settings. If you have 8 GB of total RAM on your PC, this modpack will be difficult to run: 16 GB is really recommended.
- Outdated graphics drivers — Update your GPU drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).
- Other applications open — Close Chrome, Discord, and other resource-heavy applications before launching the game. Cobblemon Academy uses a lot of memory.
I can't join the server
- Check that the server is indeed started and online in OuiPanel
- Check that the IP address is correct (with the port)
- Make sure you have exactly the same version of the modpack as the server. A client-side update without a server update (or vice versa) will block the connection.
The Cobblemon do not appear on the server
This usually happens in two cases:
- The server has not finished loading all the mods. Wait 2-3 minutes after the
Done!message in the console. Cobblemon spawns take a little time to trigger after startup. - The Cobblemon mod is not loaded correctly. Check the server console for any errors related to Cobblemon. You can test with the
/cobblemoncommand in the console.
The custom biomes are not generating
The biomes of Cobblemon Academy (William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld, Regions Unexplored, Oh The Biomes We've Gone) only apply to new chunks. If your world was generated before installing the modpack, already explored areas will retain their Vanilla biomes.
Two solutions:
- Explore new areas — Move away from the spawn to discover the new biomes in the ungenerated chunks.
- Regenerate the world — Delete the
world/folder on the server and restart. The world will be fully regenerated with the modpack's biomes. ⚠️ This will delete all existing builds.
"Incompatible mod" or "Mismatched mod channel list" error
This message means that the client-side mods do not match those on the server. To resolve:
- Ensure that all players are using CurseForge to install the modpack (not a manual installation)
- Check that the modpack version is identical on both client and server
- If you just updated on the client side, also update the server via the Modpack Manager in OuiPanel
The server takes a long time to start
This is normal for the first start (5 to 10 minutes). The server needs to:
- Initialize the 100+ mods of the modpack
- Generate the world with the custom biomes
- Load all Cobblemon data (spawns, arenas, quests)
Subsequent starts will be faster (2-3 minutes). If the server remains stuck beyond 15 minutes, check the console for any errors and contact OuiHeberg support.
How much RAM should I allocate for the server?
- 1-5 players → 6 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
- 5-10 players → 8-10 GB
- 10-20 players → 12 GB
- 20+ players → 16 GB or more
These values are specific to Cobblemon Academy 2.0. A Vanilla or Paper server requires much less RAM.
How to update the modpack?
Client Side: CurseForge will automatically notify you of updates. Click "Update" when prompted.
Server Side: Stop the server, return to the Modpack Manager in OuiPanel, and install the new version.
⚠️ Always back up your world before an update! At OuiHeberg, you can create a manual backup with one click from OuiPanel before proceeding.
