ZAP-Hosting stands out from most Minecraft hosts with its Lifetime offer: a one-off payment instead of a monthly subscription. The plan is real, but the word "lifetime" needs an important explanation. Under ZAP-Hosting's current terms, the right of use lasts until the product is considered inactive. After three months without the customer accessing the product from the web interface, ZAP-Hosting may block it. Without contact during the following four weeks, the server may be permanently deleted, with no refund of the purchase price.
The short conclusion is therefore this: ZAP-Hosting Lifetime can be worthwhile for a long-running Minecraft project, but it is not perpetual, unconditional hosting. You have to log into the panel regularly, pick a well-sized configuration from the start, and accept tying up several years of monthly fees.
ZAP-Hosting at a glance
ZAP-Hosting is not an anonymous brand with no published legal identity. The ZAP-Hosting legal notice identifies ZAP-Hosting GmbH, located at Hafenweg 8 in Münster, Germany. It lists Marvin Kluck as managing director and registration number HRB 15672 with the Amtsgericht Münster.
The company offers game servers, VPS, dedicated servers, web hosting and several Lifetime products.

What does "Lifetime" actually mean at ZAP-Hosting?
Lifetime does not mean the server stays yours whatever happens. Section 10 of the terms of service describes the mechanism precisely:
- the Lifetime product is paid for once;
- the right of use remains valid as long as the product does not become inactive;
- inactivity is established when the customer does not access the product in the web interface for three months;
- ZAP-Hosting may then switch off and block the product;
- the customer still has four weeks to contact the company;
- without contact during that period, the product may be permanently deleted and the Lifetime right cancelled, with no refund;
- if the customer contacts ZAP-Hosting during the blocking or grace period, the product becomes usable again.
What the clause does not say
The current condition refers to the customer accessing the product from the web interface. It does not define inactivity by the number of connected players, world activity or whether the server is running. In other words, leaving the server up or having friends play on it does not necessarily replace a panel login by the account holder.
To be safe, a Lifetime buyer should log into the panel at least once every two months, check that the product shows as active, and keep the emails tied to the account. Regular external backups remain essential.
An old official promise now out of date
A ZAP-Hosting blog post from August 2020 states, word for word, "We do not shut down the server!", and claims a break-even point from the 8th month. That page is still online, but it no longer matches the current terms: the inactivity clause now allows blocking and then deletion.
For a purchase decision today, rely on the terms in force and on the final cart, not on that old marketing post.
How much does a ZAP-Hosting Minecraft server cost?
The ZAP-Hosting Minecraft page displayed, at the time of our check, several amounts on the same page:
- a banner from $3.20 per month;
- body text stating €2.76 per month for 4 slots and 2 GB of RAM;
- Minecraft variants shown from $3.23;
- Lifetime from $116.
These differences may come from currency, location, rounding or the configurator. They nonetheless make it impossible to present a single price as universal. The reliable figure is the final cart, in the customer's currency, with the taxes and options shown before payment.
The price varies with the maximum number of players, the amount of RAM, the chosen location, a dedicated IP, access to the DDoS manager, placement on a Premium host system, extra disk space, and the chosen game or modpack.
The stated entry configuration includes 4 slots, 2 GB of RAM, DDoS protection and FTP access. Server storage is 10 GB by default. That baseline can suit a small Vanilla or light Paper server, but 2 GB should not be presented as a universal configuration for large modpacks. Real requirements depend on the number of players, render distance, world size, plugins and mods. Our guide on installing a Minecraft modpack details what these setups actually consume.
How long before Lifetime pays for itself?
The only sound method is to compare two strictly identical carts:
Break-even in months = total Lifetime price ÷ monthly price of the same configuration
For illustration only:
| Displayed assumption | Calculation | Theoretical break-even |
|---|---|---|
| $116 Lifetime against $3.20/month | 116 ÷ 3.20 | 36.25 months |
| 116 currency units against 2.76/month | 116 ÷ 2.76 | 42.03 months |
These examples give an order of magnitude of three to three and a half years, not eight months. They are not a certified cart comparison, however, since the page mixes dollars and euros and the options may differ.
Before buying, record in the configurator the same number of slots, the same RAM, the same location, the same host type, the same storage, the same network options and the price actually charged.
You should also factor in the opportunity cost of the upfront payment and the risk of no longer using the server before it pays for itself. A Lifetime plan saves money only if the service is kept long enough and if the purchased configuration stays suitable.
Rental, prepaid or Lifetime: three different commitments
| Plan | How it works | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Prepaid | Payment for a period with no recurring commitment | The service stops if it is not renewed |
| Contract | Recurring subscription at the chosen interval | Cancellation at least 7 days before renewal for a game server |
| Lifetime | One-off payment | Inactivity clause and no downgrade |
The terms of service provide that a contract not cancelled in time is renewed for the same duration. The official cancellation guide specifies seven days' notice for a game server under contract, and states that prepaid requires no cancellation.
The same guide describes an internal revocation within fourteen days credited in ZAP Coins, after a €3 deduction. The terms also describe the consumer's right of withdrawal and the circumstances in which it can expire after full performance of the service. These mechanisms should not be confused. For a significant purchase, ask in writing which refund would apply to your cart and keep the answer. This article is not legal advice.
Can a Lifetime server be upgraded?
Yes, but not both ways. The Rent or Purchase documentation states that a Lifetime product can be upgraded after purchase, while a downgrade is not possible. Changing game is possible, but a price difference per slot may have to be paid.
ZAP-Hosting also states that rented and Lifetime products run on the same host systems. ZAP Coins generally cannot be used to buy or upgrade a Lifetime product, which the terms confirm.
The practical consequence is simple: do not wildly oversize your server at the start, but do not pick 2 GB either for a project that will soon need 8 or 12 GB. Since downgrades are excluded, a sizing mistake costs more on a Lifetime plan.
Versions, mods and control panel
The official offer advertises a broad catalogue: Minecraft Vanilla, Paper and Spigot, Forge and NeoForge, Fabric, plus hundreds of modpacks from CurseForge, Feed the Beast, Technic and ATLauncher, and older Minecraft versions.
The customer gets a web panel, an in-game console, a configuration editor and full FTP access. ZAP-Hosting also explains that several game installations can coexist, but only one is active at a time. Maps and files are kept when switching, within the available storage.
One ambiguity is worth checking in the cart: the Minecraft page mentions many mods and modpacks included, while some Lifetime configurator entries show prices specific to modpack families. The final cost of the modpack you want should therefore be verified before payment.
Backups: useful, but an external copy is still needed
The ZAP-Hosting backup documentation advertises one-click manual backups, automatic daily or weekly backups, restoration from the panel, 10 GB of backup storage included by default, downloading over FTP, and a paid extension through Premium Storage.
This system is a genuine plus. It should not, however, be your only protection. The terms make the customer responsible for securing their data and limit ZAP-Hosting's liability in case of loss. For an important world, periodically keep an archive on a computer or independent storage.
The recommended safety rule is:
- an automatic backup at the host;
- an external copy downloaded regularly;
- a restore test before a major version or modpack change.
Hardware and performance: what can actually be concluded
ZAP-Hosting highlights SSDs, host systems with 328 GB of DDR4 RAM and Intel E5-2650 v4 processors on its Minecraft page. That processor belongs to the Xeon E5 v4 generation, launched in early 2016, with 12 cores and a 2.20 GHz base frequency. Intel now lists it as discontinued.
This information alone cannot predict a server's TPS. Performance also depends on the number of instances on the host, actual load, storage, Java configuration, server version and world. ZAP-Hosting also sells a Premium option which, according to its page, caps the host system's total average load.
The point is therefore not to declare the hardware "bad" or "lag-free" based on a processor name. It is to note that:
- the standard advertised processor belongs to an older generation;
- resource sharing is not publicly detailed per instance;
- the Premium option potentially changes load conditions;
- only a test on the purchased location and configuration can measure TPS, chunk generation time and stability.
For a demanding project, ask which processor is actually available in the target location and measure TPS during the first days, off-peak then at peak.
Locations and DDoS protection
The official locations guide lists game servers available in Eygelshoven in Germany, London, Los Angeles, Dallas, Ashburn, Montreal, Sydney and Singapore. The site offers a ping test in the configurator.
Some locations may carry a surcharge. DDoS protection is advertised as included, but technologies and capacities vary by data centre. So choose first on latency to your players, then check the price and protection attached to that location.
The terms guarantee an annual average accessibility of 99.5 %, excluding events and problems outside ZAP-Hosting's control. The provider also maintains a public status page with incidents by location. That transparency is useful, but a status page does not replace an independent availability measurement.
Support
ZAP-Hosting advertises support available every day, around the clock, by ticket, chat and email. On some pages it also displays an average response time in minutes. That is an indicator published by the company, not a contractual resolution commitment.
We did not open comparable tickets to measure a real delay: announcing an independent average without doing that work would be misleading.
Why this article quotes no review scores
Review platforms and forums contain testimonials about ZAP-Hosting, both positive and negative. We chose to reproduce neither an overall score nor an individual testimonial here, for two reasons.
First, because we are not in a position to verify that content one by one: a testimonial describes an experience, in a given configuration and on a given date, without the case being checkable. Second, because we are a direct competitor: relaying unverified complaints about another host would not be information, it would be a commercial argument in disguise.
We prefer to stick to the documents ZAP-Hosting publishes itself, which any reader can open and check. If you want to consult user feedback, do so directly on the platforms concerned, looking at the product type covered and the date of each review.
Security: a historical incident worth knowing
In an official statement from March 2022, ZAP-Hosting acknowledged the publication of a copy of its customer portal database, with a data status of 22 November 2021. The company stated that email addresses and usernames were affected, along with, depending on the account, some address details or support conversations. It specified that credit card data was not included and that customer portal passwords appeared only in encrypted form, except for certain sub-accounts whose auto-generated passwords were reset.
This is a historical incident, disclosed by the company itself, not proof of a current compromise. It remains relevant to a trust assessment. Enable stronger authentication if offered, use a unique password, and never reuse FTP credentials on another service.
ZAP-Hosting against a monthly OuiHeberg plan
This comparison is published by OuiHeberg: read it with that conflict of interest in mind. The ZAP-Hosting data comes from its official pages; ours comes from our Minecraft hosting page.
| Criterion | ZAP-Hosting, entry observed | OuiHeberg Start |
|---|---|---|
| Payment | Rental, prepaid or Lifetime | Monthly |
| Displayed price | €2.76/month in the text or $3.20 in the banner | $2.28/month incl. VAT |
| RAM | 2 GB | 4 GB DDR4 ECC |
| Allocated CPU | Not specified on the product page | 2 vCPU |
| Server storage | 10 GB | 20 GB NVMe |
| Slots | 4 | Unlimited players advertised |
| Backups | 10 GB of storage; manual or automatic | 2 slots; daily |
| File access | FTP | SFTP |
| Locations | 8 regions listed | Marseille, Frankfurt, New York, Beauharnois, Sydney |
| Support | 24/7 advertised, multichannel | 24/7 by ticket, in French |
| One-off payment | Yes, with an inactivity clause | Not offered on the Start plan |
ZAP-Hosting has one distinctive advantage: the ability to pay once. OuiHeberg publishes more RAM, storage and slots on its monthly entry plan. These products therefore answer different priorities. For a wider view of the market, see our comparison of Minecraft hosts.
Who might ZAP-Hosting Lifetime suit?
The plan can make sense if the server is to be used for several years, if the upfront amount does not strain the project budget, if the exact configuration has been calculated for the long term, if the administrator accepts logging into the panel regularly, if external backups are organised, if the chosen location gives players a satisfactory ping, and if the break-even point has been calculated with two identical carts.
When is renting the safer choice?
A monthly or prepaid plan is usually wiser if the project is a few weeks' test, if the community or modpack may change quickly, if the RAM requirement is still uncertain, if you want to be able to reduce resources, if you prefer to limit the initial financial risk, if you would rather not monitor an inactivity clause, or if you want to measure performance before committing.
Our verdict
ZAP-Hosting Lifetime is a genuine one-off payment offer, but not a guarantee of perpetual, unconditional hosting. The server can pay for itself after several years if the customer keeps exactly the same requirement. In exchange, you have to accept the inactivity clause, the absence of downgrades and a high upfront investment.
The offer has solid points on paper: a catalogue of versions and modpacks, FTP, automatable backups, several locations, DDoS protection and advertised 24/7 support. The watch points are just as concrete: entry prices displayed inconsistently across blocks of the same page, a standard processor from an older generation, insufficiently detailed resource sharing, and an old marketing promise that now contradicts the current terms.
Our recommendation: start with a prepaid or monthly period on the intended configuration and location, measure performance, then consider Lifetime only if the final cart pays for itself within a realistic timeframe. Before any one-off payment, save a copy of the specifications, the price and the conditions applicable that day.
Frequently asked questions
Is ZAP-Hosting Lifetime really for life?
Not unconditionally. The current terms define Lifetime as a right of use until inactivity. After three months without the customer accessing the product in the web interface, ZAP-Hosting may block it. Without contact for a further four weeks, the server may be permanently deleted, with no refund.
Do you have to play on the server to avoid inactivity?
The clause refers to the customer accessing the product from the web panel, not to the number of players. It is therefore prudent for the account holder to open the product management regularly.
Does Lifetime still involve a monthly subscription?
The Lifetime product itself is paid for once. Added upgrades or options may nonetheless change the total cost. Check the cart and the nature of each option before payment.
Can you increase the RAM of a Lifetime server?
Yes. The documentation states that upgrades are possible. Downgrades, however, are not.
Can you change game or modpack?
The documentation allows changing game, but a price difference per slot may be requested. The availability and price of certain modpacks should be checked in the configurator.
How much RAM does the cheapest Minecraft plan include?
The Minecraft page states 2 GB of RAM with 4 slots on its entry plan. That configuration targets a small server; it is not suitable for every modpack.
Are backups included?
Yes. ZAP-Hosting documents manual and automatic backups, with 10 GB of backup storage included by default. Regularly downloading an external copy is still recommended.
What availability is guaranteed?
The terms mention 99.5 % annual average accessibility, with exclusions for events outside the company's control.
ZAP-Hosting or OuiHeberg: which one to choose?
ZAP-Hosting differentiates itself with Lifetime payment. OuiHeberg Start publishes more RAM and storage on its monthly entry plan, plus support in French. The right choice mainly depends on the project's duration, the resources needed, and your preference between a one-off payment and flexibility.
